Some believe this life to be merely the crucible in which our souls are tempered. I have my doubts.

Silence, you comfort me; grant now epiphany
Are we without meaning? Soulless machinery spent?
I once held a snowflake in the palm of my hand, watched it melt back to water, end as it began: formless, fleeting, and born to die … once again part of the whole and yet gone just the same, never knowing itself just a moth to the flame of time. Why this ephemeral life?

Some say “seize the day” with their words but they throw it away with their deeds, such a waste.

Gone now is the past, never will the future be
All that is our now is all ever shall be
Pointlessly we cast our lots bearing burdens of faith
We waste our breath upon rites of passing
Squandering our gifts, spurn the bounty of our lives
Yet still we insist we’ll earn Heaven’s treasure
Why do we persist justifying countless lies?
Do we then exist to demonstrate our measure?

Knowing apostasy, growing hypocrisy
Mourning my sophistry, soulless machinery spent
You come as a friend but now yet once again I have found all your lies were but means to an end and you leave me bereft of faith. Can you balance the scales of belief and intention so bankrupted wantonly spent on redemption now? Why this ephemeral life?

There is nothing new under the sun yet change itself is somehow both constant and inchoate in the face of it.

Upright on the plains, facing his horizons
The man had left his caves only to find lions
Shamans of the tribes,poring over claw-marked bones
Pondered the Divine, guttural and violent
Busy traffic stop, speaking to his cellular,
Digits on the clock, last sight of the earthly
Reverent was the crowd, attentive to the priest’s kind words
Wondering aloud at His endless mercy
